The charter date of Rotary Gaya City is 15th June 1981 when Rotarian Rolf J. Klarich was the Rotary International President. The first President of the club during 1981-82 was Rotarian H.L. Chopra and Secretary was Rotarian Abul Ola. Since then, the club is doing regular social service with the primary aim of the Rotary “Service above self.” Since inception, the club has focused on a wider range of social services which include the basic education of downtrodden and underprivileged persons (specially girls), pure drinking water to the inhabitants of neglected rural areas, adoption of villages for its betterment, adoption of government primary school and making it a happy school. Besides these services, underprivileged girls and women have been provided training in beautician, sewing and computer courses at Saheli center to make them self-reliant. It is a matter of pride of our club that more than 1000 girls and women were given training and most of them have started their personal beauty parlours, tailoring shops and cybercafé and have become self-independent. To protect environment from pollution, the club every year plants more than 1000 saplings in different areas of the town and also monitors them till the plants fix themselves properly in the soil. The club arranges free mega medical checkup camp besides monthly medical camps every year and also distributes free medicines. Some other projects like blood donation program, helping poor persons by clothes and blankets have been the regular feature of our club. Our club has played very important role in eradicating polio from Gaya and surrounding areas by arranging camps and creating awareness among people by organizing several rallies. During covid menace, the club helped several needy persons by providing them oxygen cylinders, masks, kits and sanitizers
It is a matter of great satisfaction for us that our club has been recognized by the district 3250 several times and many club leaders have fetched several awards. In this context it will be worthwhile to mention that Rotarian Kiran Prakash was given best President award in the district (below 45 members group) in the year 2007-08. In the above 45-member group, Rotarian Prof. Arvind Kumar Sinha was declared best President by the district in the year 2008-09. Similarly in the same member group Dr. Ratan Kumar was bestowed with best President award in the district in 2010-11.
